GILDEMEISTER wins German Logistics Award 2002
Bielefeld. GILDEMEISTER is this year’s winner of the German Logistics Award. Since 1984 the jury of the Bundesvereinigung Logistik e.V. (BVL) (German Federal Logistics Association) has honoured enterprises in industry, trade and the service industry, who have successfully put into practice a trend-setting integrated overall logistics programme. At the 19th German Logistics Congress in Berlin, the Senator for Economics, Harald Wolf, handed over the award to Dr.-Ing. Raimund Klinkner, Production and Logistics Director of GILDEMEISTER Aktiengesellschaft.
In the context of its focus on customers and logistics, GILDEMEISTER has succeeded, within just four years, in implementing an integrated logistics solution, which was instrumental in GILDEMEISTER’s comprehensive turn-round and contributed to its current top-tier position in the global competition for cutting machine tool production.
The Management Unit for Production and Logistics, formed in 1997, successfully reorganised the whole business process with the help of the committed support of its staff at the ten locations of the group. The logistic potentials hidden within the value-added chain served, amongst other things, the development of global marketing structures and innovative products. The transfer of methods from the motor industry and the comprehensive use of modern information technologies led to a flexibilisation and acceleration of the production structures and an integration of suppliers into a company-wide logistics strategy.
The continuous optimisation of the logistic processes run parallel to the development of the group’s ideas management. More than 30,000 staff suggestions for improvement therefore contributed to an increase in the turnover of stock by a good 40% and in area productivity by 80%. With an average of 4.14 suggestions for improvement per employee in the year 2001, the six domestic production facilities achieved another peak value in the industry,
Today the GILDEMEISTER group stands out against its competition thanks to its trend-setting logistics, therefore achieving customer proximity, high innovation rates and a flexible pattern of production. Building on this success, it is essential for GILDEMEISTER to consistently cultivate its current position as leader in the global machine tool market by continuing its vision of the customer wish factory and optimising its current approach.
